The experience of trauma can be devastating on individuals, families and communities. As trauma permeates, its thread weaves throughout the lives of those affected directly or indirectly by the traumatic experience. The “tapestry of trauma” presents a picture to the outside world of a cohesive and well planned design. However a glimpse of the other side of the quilt reveals the seemingly chaotic stitching holding the tapestry together. Individual responses to trauma vary as people and communities rebuild their lives and struggle to give meaning to shattering event/s.
The “Tapestry of Trauma” conference considers the experience of trauma; how trauma impacts on the physical, psychological and spiritual self; the range of responses to trauma; the variables influential on the response becoming chronic or complex; and finally, how we can best assist those individuals, families and communities in the immediate and long-term aftermath of trauma.
